Bulgarian National Film Center

Bulgarian National Film Center (BNFC) carries out the national support of Bulgarian cinema. State subsidies are provided for the creation of feature and documentary film scripts and the development of film projects, for the production and distribution of feature-length and short feature films, documentaries and animated films. Grants are awarded to film projects selected on a competitive basis by an expert National Arts Commission. The State subsidy shall provide at least 30% of the average budget and no more than 80% of the budget of the film concerned. The Republic of Bulgaria has been a member of the Council of Europe's (CoE) pan-European Fund for the Support of European Film Co-productions and Distribution (EURIMAGES) since the beginning of 1993. 

The Executive Agency of the BNFC represents Bulgaria in the Management Board of the Fund and advises the national applicants for financial support. BNFC is the coordinator for the Republic of Bulgaria in the European Audiovisual Observatory of the CoE and the MEDIA Plus Programme of the EU, established by Council Decision of 20.12.2000. The Media Bureau-Bulgaria operates within the BNFC. Since 2005, BNFC represents Bulgaria in European Film Promotion - an organisation promoting European films, directors and actors at the most prestigious film festivals worldwide. BNFC works in cooperation with the Bulgarian National Television, the Bulgarian National Film Library, the Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers and other organisations in the field of audiovisual in the production, distribution and preservation of Bulgarian films, as well as the protection of copyright and related rights of Bulgarian and foreign film artists.
